Beginner course

Intermediate/proficient course

Training period Up to one week (7 nights, 8 days)
Date students are admitted Throughout the year
Tuition 30,000 yen/ 1 night, 2 days (tax excluded), 33,000 yen/1 night, 2 days (tax included)

The fee includes:
  • Use of bonsai trees and tools for training
  • Materials fees
  • Accommodation fees
  • Trainees are responsible for their own food. The accommodations include a kitchen. There is a supermarket and convenience stores near the training facility.
  • You may stay at a hotel or any other accommodation. If you do not stay in the school's accommodations, you will still have to pay the accommodation fees. The included accommodation fees are not affected by your staying in accommodations other than the school's.
  • Alternatively, trainees can attend courses while staying in a place other than the school's accommodations.

Long-term course

Training period At least a week and up to 3 months
Date students are admitted Throughout the year
Tuition up to 2 weeks
200,000 yen (tax excluded), 220,000 yen (tax included)

at least 2 weeks and up to 3 months
250,000 yen / month ( tax excluded), 275,000 yen / month ( tax included)

The fee includes:
  • Use of bonsai trees and tools for training
  • Materials fees

Training: Please inform us of the program and training period you desire using the inquiry form or by telephone.

Bonsai no Takumi (Bonsai Master): We will reply by e-mail or telephone if we approve your application.

Reservation / Application

Precautions

  • We may not be able to meet your requests regarding the period or content of training. Details are subject to change.
  • Students shall apply themselves. Other people are not permitted to take the training in place of the applicants.
  • Training may be cancelled for unavoidable reasons such as a disaster or accident.
  • Students shall bear any necessary expenses such as travel and insurance expenses.
  • If students are coming from abroad to participate in long-term training, they must undertake the necessary procedures for staying in Japan including visa.

    We will allow students to used our bonsai trees if they do not have one. Contact us for details. You can buy bonsai trees at our bonsai garden.

  • * We adapt bonsai materials and training content to suit students' levels.
Remarks
  • Inform us before attending the school if you wish to visit bonsai competitions and/or exhibitions held in Japan during the training period.

Schedule

For intermediate/advanced courses, training begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m.
Students may use training room and ask questions/ freely speak with the teacher even after training.

Example program

Day 1
Learn the basics of shape and management methods for bonsai trees.
Day 2
Remove old leaves and achieve a balance of the branches.
Day 3
Control the length and vigor of leaves by pruning the buds of pine trees.
Day 4
Learn the basic process of wiring and methods for lowering branches to create an ideal tree shape.
Day 5
Learn the basic process of wiring and methods for lowering branches to create an ideal tree shape.
Day 6
Learn ratios for blending soils for horticulture, how to cut roots, and how to manage bonsai trees after replanting.
Day 7
Learn how to place decorative stands and shelves and how to decorate an alcove.
